COMMUNITY 9-11 DINNER
President Sesha Reddy's year 2009-2010, began with the 8th Annual Police Officer and Fire Fighter of the Year Awards Dinner. Held on September 11th, this dinner began in 2002 with a combined purpose: to remember the valiant heroes of the 9-11 attacks as well as to acknowledge and thank the police and fire officers of the Hercules-Rodeo community. The event takes place every September 11th at the Hercules Swim Center. Tickets are available about one month n advance of the event. For further information, please contact any club member or e-mail us at: webmaster@herculesrotary.org
PROMOTING LITERACY
Back to school season, brings another year of our club's commitment to the Literacy of our community... our Dictionary Project. A beautiful, hardbound Children's Dictionary is presented to each third grader in the Hercules-Rodeo area. Hercules Schools include Ohlone Elementary School, Hanna Ranch Elementary School, and Lupine Hills Elementary School; Rodeo schools include Rodeo Hills Elementary School and St. Patrick School. Rotarians work with the Hercules HighSchool Interact Club to complete the five book distributions. Smiles of appreciation from the children are all that is needed to know what a truly valuable program this is. A significant amount of the monies we raise with our community activities goes to support the purchase of these books. Begun during President Bob Polacchi's year 2002-2003, this ongoing project benefits from your support at our annual Crab Feed - and we appreciate it.
